BLimited evidence. One RCT or several controlled studies with limitations.
A marine algae active. Safe.
Porphyridium Cruentum Extract comes from a red microalga. Its INCI is Porphyridium Cruentum Extract. It supplies sulphated polysaccharides that hold water at the skin surface and help ease the feeling of tightness. As a marine humectant it has a reasonable basis: the polysaccharides form a light film that lowers water loss and leaves skin comfortable. It is not a deep-transformation active, more a solid supporting hydrating and soothing base within the formula. Applied topically it does not reach the circulation in any meaningful amount, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is high: irritation and allergy risk are both low. It suits sensitive and reactive skin. There is no occlusive oil here, so it poses no problem for oily or acne-prone skin.
