Topical application
BLimited evidence. One RCT or several controlled studies with limitations.
An antioxidant plant extract. Safe.
Polygonum Cuspidatum Root Extract is the most common plant source of resveratrol. In a formula it works as an antioxidant: it helps neutralize free radicals and protect the lipids of both product and skin against oxidative stress. As an active it has a reasonable basis. Resveratrol has solid antioxidant data in vitro and some promising topical studies, though it is light-unstable and its real effect depends on concentration and good formulation. It is a good antioxidant support next to sun protection, not a miracle anti-aging active on its own. Topically the systemic contribution is negligible, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good: low irritation and allergy, suitable for sensitive skin. It has no meaningful comedogenic profile, so it fits any skin type.
