Buckwheat seed extract (INCI Polygonum Fagopyrum Seed Extract) comes from buckwheat and is rich in rutin, an antioxidant flavonoid. In formulas it is used with a soothing direction and antioxidant support for the skin. On efficacy this is a supporting extract. Its rutin content backs defense against oxidative stress and adds a soothing note, but the clinical evidence base is limited. It should not be presented as an anti-aging active with proven results; its role is auxiliary within the formula. Topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is high: low irritation and allergy potential, suitable for sensitive skin. No worrying comedogenic profile.
