A marine antioxidant active. Safe.
Dunaliella Salina Extract is an extract from a green microalga rich in carotenoids, mainly beta-carotene. Its INCI name is Dunaliella Salina Extract. In a formula it provides antioxidants that help defend the skin against free radicals and supports water retention. On efficacy: as a supportive antioxidant source it makes sense. Carotenoids neutralize free radicals and give mild protection against oxidative stress. That said, direct clinical data on skin are moderate, so it is better seen as a companion ingredient than a central active. Applied topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is high, with a low irritation and allergy potential, and it suits sensitive skin. Most people see no reaction.
