In cosmetics it works as a hydrating, film-forming ingredient: it helps hold water at the surface and leaves a thin film that visually smooths skin texture. It appears in serums and creams focused on hydration and comfort. On efficacy, best to stay measured. It provides surface hydration and a sensory effect of smoother skin, but the underlying clinical evidence is limited. It is a supporting hydrating active, useful within a complete formula, not a deep restructuring treatment. For topical use in pregnancy and breastfeeding there are no risk signals. Systemic absorption of a protein hydrolysate from skin is minimal, so it can be used in these stages. Tolerance is good. Low irritation and low allergy potential, compatible with sensitive skin.
