Gallyl glucoside (INCI Gallyl Glucoside) is a derivative of gallic acid bound to a glucose molecule for better stability and solubility. In a formula it works as an antioxidant ingredient: it helps the skin resist oxidative stress from free radicals and external factors. On efficacy this is a supporting antioxidant. Gallic acid and its derivatives have a decent antioxidant reputation, and the glycosylated form is more stable in water-based formulas. Realistically expect a mild protective contribution within a product rather than a pronounced standalone action. Used topically the ingredient has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding without restriction. Tolerance is good. The irritation and allergy potential is low, which suits sensitive skin. Most people show no reaction.
