This ingredient (INCI: Tetrahydrodemethoxydiferuloylmethane) is another hydrogenated, colorless derivative of curcumin. It keeps the antioxidant activity of curcuminoids but without the yellow pigment, which allows its use in clear formulas. On the skin it scavenges free radicals and helps support the defense against oxidative stress. On efficacy, hydrogenated curcuminoids work as supporting antioxidants, backed mostly in vitro with limited clinical skin data. It adds to an antioxidant formula, without being a targeted treatment for wrinkles or dark spots on its own. Read it that way: a supporting ingredient. Applied topically it has no systemic significance, so it can be used in pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good. Irritation and allergy potential are low and it suits sensitive skin. At cosmetic concentrations reactions are rare.
