Tetrahydrodiferuloylmethane is a hydrogenated, more stable derivative of curcumin. Its INCI is Tetrahydrodiferuloylmethane. In a formula it works as an antioxidant and is included on the idea of helping even out skin tone. Compared with raw curcumin it has the advantage of being nearly colourless and more light-stable, which makes it practical in cosmetics. The antioxidant evidence is reasonable, while the effect on tone is more modest and should be expected as support, not as a strong brightener. Topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good and irritation and allergy risk are low. It suits sensitive skin and is not comedogenic, so it fits oily or acne-prone skin too.
