This ingredient (INCI: Tetrahydrobisdemethoxydiferuloylmethane) is a hydrogenated, colorless derivative of curcumin, the pigment of turmeric. Without the intense yellow color it can be used in cosmetics without tinting the formula, while keeping the antioxidant character. It helps curb oxidative stress, soothes the skin and supports a more even tone. On efficacy, curcuminoids are of interest as antioxidants and soothing agents, with data mostly from the lab and a few small skin studies. It is a reasonable supporting active within an antioxidant formula, not a treatment that erases dark spots or wrinkles on its own. Applied topically it has no systemic significance, so it can be used in pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good. Irritation and allergy potential are low, which makes it suitable for sensitive and reactive skin.
