About this ingredient
Aquaphilus Dolomiae Ferment Filtrate is a postbiotic, a filtrate from a culture of Aquaphilus dolomiae, a bacterium isolated from thermal spring water. The manufacturer has published work on several versions of the extract: ES0 in cells, ADE-G2 and ADE-G3 in people. Which of them matches this INCI name has not been verified. It is used in creams for sensitive, atopic and irritated skin. The ingredient alone has been studied only in cells. In keratinocytes, ES0 reduced inflammatory mediators (TSLP, IL-18, IL-8) and blocked activation of PAR-2, a receptor involved in itch. In lymphocytes it lowered Th1, Th2 and Th17 cytokines (Aries 2016). Human studies tested finished creams in open designs without a control group, so the filtrate's own effect is unknown. Among 2382 adults with sensitive facial skin, 93% reported immediate soothing and physicians rated tolerability as good in 98% (Wollenberg 2024). With another cream for minor skin damage, dermatologists rated tolerability as good or very good in 98.5% of 1297 people (Shi 2024). In people with sensitive skin, the electrodermal response to stimuli fell by 40–50% over 84 days (Villaret 2022). No study has included people with rosacea, and redness was not measured separately. The manufacturer's staff wrote or co-wrote all of these papers; there are no independent studies. Patch tests of the ingredient itself have not been published. There are no data on use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
