Polyamide-3 is a synthetic structuring polymer, listed in INCI under the same name. Its job is to thicken the oil phase of a formula and give it a firm gel texture. It shows up in balms, sticks and products that need a compact consistency. This is a functional texture component, not a skincare active. It defines how the product feels and holds its shape, but it brings no biological benefit to the skin. It performs its structural role reliably. Applied topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is high, with low irritation and allergy potential, which makes it suitable for sensitive skin. It is an inert polymer that in practice causes no reactions.
