INCI: Punica Granatum Fruit Extract
A pomegranate extract with polyphenols. An antioxidant that supports skin defense. Well tolerated.
Topical application
BLimited evidence. One RCT or several controlled studies with limitations.
An antioxidant plant extract. Safe.
Pomegranate fruit extract (INCI Punica Granatum Fruit Extract) is a plant-derived active rich in polyphenols, mainly punicalagins and ellagic acid. In cosmetic formulas it acts as an antioxidant and usually appears alongside other ingredients in products for mature skin or with an environmental-protection focus. On efficacy, an honest read: there are in vitro data and a few small studies showing antioxidant activity of pomegranate polyphenols, but the topical clinical evidence stays modest. It works better as a supporting ingredient inside a well-built formula than as a hero active, and you should not expect a visible change from it alone. For topical use it carries no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good: low irritation potential and low allergy risk, suitable for sensitive skin too. Individual reactions are possible but uncommon.
