Rhus Verniciflua Peel Wax is a plant wax obtained from the bark of the lacquer tree. It thickens the oil phase, helps a stick hold its shape and softens the skin with an emollient touch. This is a functional texture and structure ingredient with a secondary emollient contribution, not a corrective active. Its value is in giving the product firmness, body and a soft finish. A classic role for plant waxes in formulation. Applied topically there is no meaningful systemic absorption, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good: low irritation and allergy potential, suitable for sensitive skin. Comedogenicity is very low (level 1), so it is unlikely to clog pores. Worth noting that the Rhus plant belongs to a family with sensitising potential; processing into wax greatly lowers that risk, but on very reactive skin a patch test first stays sensible.
