Soapberry peel extract (INCI Sapindus Mukorossi Peel Extract) comes from the fruit's outer shell and is rich in natural saponins. These molecules have mild surfactant properties, so the ingredient is used as a plant-based cleanser that foams gently. In practice it works as a functional cleansing component, not a skincare active. It cleanses and lifts dirt and oil with low harshness; its value lies in offering a gentle alternative to stronger synthetic surfactants. Do not expect a treating effect from it beyond cleansing. Topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good: low irritation and low allergy risk, with a mild detergent action. Still, saponins can dry the skin slightly if the formula is highly concentrated or washing is frequent.
