INCI: Solanum Lycopersicum Fruit Extract
A tomato fruit extract with lycopene. It supports the skin's antioxidant defense. Well tolerated.
Topical application
BLimited evidence. One RCT or several controlled studies with limitations.
An antioxidant plant extract. Safe.
Tomato fruit extract is obtained from Solanum lycopersicum. INCI: Solanum Lycopersicum (Tomato) Fruit Extract. In a formula it works as an antioxidant and conditioning component: it contains lycopene and other carotenoids credited with protection from oxidative stress. The antioxidant rationale is clear, but topical clinical data on a standalone skincare effect of the extract are limited, and lycopene is unstable and poorly water-soluble. It is a supporting component rather than a lead active with a proven result. Pregnancy safety. Topical use is systemically negligible, with no evidence of harm. It can be used during pregnancy and lactation. Tolerance. Irritation and allergen potential are low, suitable for sensitive skin.
