An antioxidant plant extract. Safe.
Sophora Japonica Flower Extract is an extract of the pagoda tree flower, rich in flavonoids such as rutin. Its INCI is Sophora Japonica Flower Extract. In a formula it works as an antioxidant and helps calm the skin. The flavonoids give a reasonable antioxidant basis: they help neutralise free radicals and soften the feeling of reactivity. It is a good supporting ingredient rather than an active with a large standalone proven effect; it adds value within a well-built formula. Topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good and irritation and allergy risk are low. It suits sensitive skin and is not comedogenic, so it fits oily or acne-prone skin too.
