Tamarind seed gum (INCI Tamarindus Indica Seed Gum) is a plant polysaccharide extracted from the seeds of the plant. In a formula it acts as a thickener and texture modifier: it raises viscosity, stabilizes the mix and, thanks to its water-holding capacity, leaves a soft, hydrated feel, often with a sensory effect similar to hyaluronic acid. On efficacy, this is a functional component. Its main job is to structure the formula; the hydration contribution is secondary and surface-level, so it is best judged by its rheological role rather than as a care active. Applied topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good, with low irritation and allergy potential, suitable for sensitive skin. Already-sensitized people may see an occasional reaction, though most do not.
