Bifidobacteria probiotic lysate, the key active in Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair serum. Works on skin barrier recovery.
Topical application
CWeak evidence. In vitro data, open-label studies, or expert consensus.
Estee Lauder studies show faster recovery after UV stress and reduced aging markers in skin. Independent data outside the brand remain limited.
Bifida Ferment Lysate is the product of breaking down Bifidobacterium spp. cell walls and releasing intracellular content: peptidoglycans, nucleotides, amino acids, lysozyme, exopolysaccharides. Differs from bifida ferment filtrate by containing cell-wall components – i.e. more immunomodulatory PAMPs. Claimed mechanism. The lead active of Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair since 1982 – the pioneer of the 'overnight DNA repair' concept. The manufacturer and in vitro data describe activation of DNA-repair enzymes (a photolyase-like effect on pyrimidine dimers), upregulation of heat-shock proteins, and suppression of NF-κB and TNF-α. On skin it acts as an immunomodulator plus a barrier-repair agent. Where applied. Anti-age serums (Estée Lauder ANR, La Mer The Treatment Lotion, La Prairie Skin Caviar), sensitive-skin creams, post-procedure products. Concentration 0.5–5%. In Spain – premium cosmeceutical lines at Sephora ES, Druni, El Corte Inglés. Evidence base. Like bifida filtrate, most data come from the manufacturer (Estée Lauder R&D); independent clinical RCTs are rare. In vitro work on fibroblast and keratinocyte cultures shows repair potential, but real-world tolerance and long-term anti-age effect are not confirmed in large independent RCTs. The 'skin biome and ferment lysates' concept is scientifically interesting, but level-A clinical evidence is not yet in. Safety. Hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic, non-irritating. Topical systemic absorption is minimal. Pregnancy and lactation – safe topically. Used without restriction. Realistic assessment. A marketing postbiotic of premium cosmeceuticals. No standalone anti-age benefit proved in monotherapy. If the product feels good and is tolerated well, you can use it – just not as a substitute for retinoids, vitamin C, and SPF.
