Caprooyl Sphingosine (INCI identical) is a ceramide-precursor lipid, derived from sphingosine with a caproic acid chain. In formulas it supports the skin barrier and reduces dryness, complementing the action of ceramides. On efficacy, it fits as a barrier-support ingredient rather than a standalone active. It provides building blocks for stratum corneum lipids and improves the comfort of dry or reactive skin, especially alongside ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids. Its effect shows within the blend, not on its own. Topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good: low irritation and allergy potential, suitable for sensitive skin. It is a comfortable, quiet ingredient in repair creams.
