About this ingredient

Tetraacetylphytosphingosine (TAPS) is a ceramide precursor. Acetylated phytosphingosine with improved solubility in the formula lipid phase. Mechanism. After penetration into skin it deacetylates and integrates into stratum-corneum sphingolipid synthesis. Supports ceramide production. Effect is similar to ready-made ceramides but with longer-lasting action and better solubility. Where applied. Repair serums and creams, atopic-skin products, post-procedure care. Final-product concentration 0.01-0.1%. In Spain – Sesderma Reti-Age, Eucerin Sensitive. Evidence base. In vitro and in vivo tests (Doxcocyclin 2009) showed 20-30% stratum-corneum ceramide increase over 4 weeks at 0.05%. Clinical RCTs with large patient numbers are scarce. Safety. CIR confirmed safety. Hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic. No systemic absorption. Pregnancy and lactation – safe.
