INCI: Lactobacillus Ferment Lysate
Lactobacillus probiotic lysate with soothing and barrier-supporting action. Appears in sensitive-skin lines such as La Roche-Posay Toleriane.
Topical application
CWeak evidence. In vitro data, open-label studies, or expert consensus.
The lysate reduces pro-inflammatory cytokines in sensitive-skin models and speeds up barrier repair. Large clinical RCTs outside brand trials remain rare.
Lactobacillus Ferment Lysate is a lysate of cultivated Lactobacillus bacteria: disrupted cell walls, metabolites and peptides. Technologically close to Lactobacillus Ferment Filtrate but contains cell-envelope fragments. Mechanism. A postbiotic: lysate components activate keratinocyte TLR2 receptors, which in vitro reduces IL-6 and TNF-α production (Gueniche 2010). On skin it works as a soothing ingredient in irritation and dryness. Where applied. Sensitive-skin lines – La Roche-Posay Toleriane, Avène Tolerance Control, Spanish Sesderma Atopises. Concentrations typically 0.1–2%. Evidence base. A double-blind study in 75 sensitive-skin patients (Guéniche 2010) showed reduction in redness and burning over 8 weeks. CIR confirmed safety at cosmetic concentrations. Pregnancy and lactation – safe. Often recommended as a replacement for actives in post-rosacea and post-acne during pregnancy.
