Bis-ethylhexyl hydroxydimethoxy benzylmalonate (INCI of the same name) is an emollient with antioxidant properties. In a formula it softens skin and at the same time helps protect the product from oxidation, so it adds stability alongside feel. On efficacy, the sensible view is a good emollient with a supporting antioxidant bonus. It improves texture and feel and contributes to formula stability, but on its own it is not a well-backed anti-aging active. Useful as a supporting ingredient, not as a primary treatment. Systemic exposure from topical use is negligible, so it can be used in pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good: irritation and allergy risk are low, suitable for sensitive skin. Comedogenicity is very low (1 out of 5), so problems are rare, though very oily skin can watch how it responds. It does not dry the skin.
