Bis-glyceryl ascorbate (INCI: Bis-Glyceryl Ascorbate) is a stable vitamin C derivative in which the ascorbate molecule is linked to glycerol. That modification makes it more resistant to oxidation and gentler than pure ascorbic acid. On the skin it provides antioxidant defense and supports a more even tone. On efficacy, vitamin C derivatives have a basis as antioxidants, though their action on pigmentation is usually milder and slower than well-formulated L-ascorbic acid. It is a reasonable supporting active, especially for people who do not tolerate pure vitamin C; do not expect dramatic results. Applied topically it has no systemic significance, so it can be used in pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good. Irritation and allergy potential are low, and being gentler than ascorbic acid it fits sensitive skin well.
