On efficacy, vitamin C derivatives work as supporting antioxidants, though their brightening action is usually gentler than well-formulated L-ascorbic acid. It fits an antioxidant and hydrating routine, without promising strong brightening on its own. Applied topically it has no systemic significance, so it can be used in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
