About this ingredient
Lysolecithin is a phospholipid-derived emulsifier obtained from lecithin. Its INCI matches the name. In a formula it joins water and oil phases, and as a phospholipid it is akin to the skin's own lipids, which gives a soft feel and helps carry oil-soluble ingredients. It is above all a functional emulsion-and-texture component. It indirectly supports the barrier by supplying compatible lipids, but its main role is technical, not treatment. It does that job well and is handy in clean-label formulas that prefer lecithin-derived emulsifiers. Topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good, with low irritation and allergy, compatible with sensitive skin. There is no evidence of meaningful comedogenicity at usual use levels.
