A soothing plant extract. Safe.
Chia seed extract (INCI: Salvia Hispanica Seed Extract) is drawn from the seeds of Salvia hispanica, rich in omega fatty acids and mucilage. In cosmetics it gives a soothing feel and helps hold water through its polysaccharides, which form a light film on the skin. This is a functional supporting ingredient. It hydrates and softens reasonably, but it has no demonstrated corrective effect on wrinkles or pigment. It acts as a comforting component within a well-balanced formula. Topically it has no systemic impact, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good: low risk of irritation and allergy, suitable for sensitive skin. It adds no meaningful oily load, so it suits combination or oily skin too.
