In cosmetics it is used for a soothing profile: it supports a sense of comfort on reactive skin and eases mild itch, which is why it appears in creams for atopy-prone skin. On efficacy, it is a supporting component. It has some track record in formulas for irritated skin, though solid clinical evidence is limited, so it is best taken as a soothing adjunct rather than a treatment.
