A soothing plant extract. Safe.
Red clover flower extract (INCI Trifolium Pratense Flower Extract) is a botanical extract rich in flavonoids, including isoflavones. In a formula it is used for a dual profile: it brings a soothing feel and is linked to firmness, so it appears in creams for mature skin and anti-aging products. On efficacy, it is a supporting component in the soothing and anti-aging categories. Isoflavones have a basis as antioxidants and phytoestrogens, but their topical effect in cosmetics is poorly documented, so it is realistic to see it as a formula adjunct rather than a lead active. Applied topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good, with low irritation and allergy potential, suitable for sensitive skin. Already-sensitized people may see an occasional reaction, though most do not.
