Its most common use is in deodorants: it binds the molecules responsible for odour rather than masking them with fragrance. On efficacy it is a functional component with a concrete, demonstrable purpose: to neutralise odour. It is not an antiperspirant, it does not reduce sweating, and it is not a skincare active. In its odour-trapping role it performs reliably. For pregnancy and breastfeeding there is no reason for caution. It acts on the surface and its systemic uptake is negligible, so it can be used, including in the underarm area. Tolerance is good. Irritation and allergy are low, suitable for sensitive skin. It is a common option for anyone wanting an aluminium-salt-free deodorant, though keep in mind it controls odour, not perspiration.
