A soothing plant extract. Safe.
Aesculus Hippocastanum Bark Extract is the extract from horse chestnut bark. Its best-known component is escin, a saponin with vasoconstrictor action and capillary-wall support. In cosmetics it is used to calm reddened skin and in formulas aimed at reactive or couperose-prone skin. As an active it is supporting. Escin has some traditional grounding and a degree of backing in venous circulation, but in facial care its effect is mild: it helps reduce the feeling of redness and comfort the skin rather than fix underlying causes. Reasonable as a secondary soothing ingredient. For topical use it is not meaningfully absorbed, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding without restriction. Tolerance is good: irritation and allergy potential are low, with no comedogenicity rating. It suits sensitive and rosacea-prone skin. Being a botanical extract, an individual reaction is always possible, though uncommon.
