A nourishing plant oil. Safe.
Shea oil, liquid fraction (INCI: Butyrospermum Parkii Oil) is the fluid part of shea butter. In a formula it nourishes and softens the skin and supports the barrier, thanks to its fatty acid content and emollient feel. It works as a supporting emollient. It improves skin flexibility and comfort and helps slow water loss, but it does not correct wrinkles or pigmentation like an active. Its contribution is real but modest, mostly about feel and barrier care. Topically its systemic absorption is minimal, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding without restriction. Tolerance is good and irritation and allergy risk are low, suitable for sensitive skin. Comedogenicity is mild (2 out of 5): for oily or acne-prone skin it is worth judging by the full formula.
