Calcium PCA is the calcium salt of pyrrolidone carboxylic acid (PCA), a component that is part of the skin's natural moisturizing factor. In a formula it acts as a humectant: it draws water into the stratum corneum and helps keep the skin soft and supple. It shows up in moisturizers, serums and products for dry skin. It has a solid basis as a humectant, because PCA is a molecule the skin itself uses to hold water. We are talking about a real surface-hydration effect, not empty promises. Even so it is a supporting active rather than a treatment, useful for everyday comfort. With topical use it has no systemic relevance, so you can use it during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is very good: irritation and allergy are both low, and it suits sensitive skin. It does not dry the skin or add comedogenic load, so it works on any skin type.
