In a formula it helps draw in and hold water and support the feel of comfort. This is a functional humectant component. PCA carries genuine humectant logic, though its contribution here is supportive rather than that of a major active: it adds to the overall hydration without being a treatment on its own. The manganese contribution is minor and tied to the salt. In topical use it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding without trouble. Tolerance is good, with low irritation and allergy potential, suitable for sensitive skin. Reactions to these PCA salts are uncommon.
