Dextrin myristate (INCI: Dextrin Myristate) is an ester made from starch and myristic acid. In a formula it acts as an oil-phase gelling agent: it structures oils and butters, turns them into clear gels and stabilizes the texture of balms, gel oils and anhydrous makeup. This is a functional component, not a skincare active. It does not hydrate or affect wrinkles or pigmentation; its job is technical, giving the product body and stability. That does not lower the value of the formula, but read it as a texture ingredient. Applied topically, starch and fatty esters have no meaningful systemic absorption, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding without restriction. Tolerance is high. Low irritation and allergy potential mean it suits sensitive skin. As a fatty derivative it can feel slightly occlusive on very oily or acne-prone skin depending on concentration, though it rarely causes trouble.
