It softens skin, gives a rich cushiony texture and a pleasant sheen, which is why it appears often in lipsticks, balms and nourishing finishing creams. This is a functional texture and emollient ingredient, not a corrective active. It does not act on wrinkles or pigment; its role is slip, body and a silky feel to the product. The role is well established in formulation. Applied topically it has no meaningful systemic absorption, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding without particular restrictions. Tolerance is high: low irritation and allergy potential, suitable for sensitive skin. Comedogenicity is low-to-moderate (level 2), so on oily or acne-prone skin it is worth judging within a lighter formula and watching how the skin responds.
