Gelidium Cartilagineum Extract is an extract from a red alga rich in polysaccharides, the same ones that form the basis of agar. In a formula it acts as a humectant and film-former: it captures water, improves texture and leaves a thin layer that gives a soothing, comfortable feel. You see it in moisturizers, masks and formulas for sensitive skin. This is a functional humectant and texturizing ingredient. Its contribution to surface hydration and sensory feel is reasonable, but it is not a treatment active with notable biological action.
