BLimited evidence. One RCT or several controlled studies with limitations.
An amino-sugar humectant. Safe.
Glucosamine HCl is an amino sugar, a precursor of hyaluronic acid and skin glycosaminoglycans. INCI: Glucosamine HCl. In a formula it works as a humectant and conditioning agent, and as a mild brightening component: glucosamine takes part in inhibiting tyrosinase, the enzyme of melanin synthesis. The brightening potential is better studied for the related form N-acetylglucosamine, especially paired with niacinamide for post-inflammatory pigmentation. For glucosamine HCl itself the role is more supporting and moisturizing. Pregnancy safety. Topical use, low systemic absorption, no evidence of harm. It can be used during pregnancy and lactation. Tolerance. Irritation and allergen potential are low.
