Hydrolyzed Malt Extract is obtained by breaking down sprouted barley. INCI: Hydrolyzed Malt Extract. In a formula it works as a moisturizing and conditioning component: it carries sugars, amino acids, and peptides, holds water, forms a thin film on skin, and gives a feel of smoothness. It is a supporting moisturizing component with a sensory effect rather than a potent active. Pregnancy safety. Topical use is systemically negligible, with no evidence of harm. It can be used during pregnancy and lactation. Tolerance. Irritation potential is low. Malt is related to barley, so with a marked grain allergy it is introduced with caution.
