Methicone is a short-chain silicone, listed in INCI under the same name, used mainly to treat pigments in makeup. It coats the color particles, improves how they disperse in the formula and gives them water resistance, which makes the finish more even and longer-lasting. This is a functional processing component, not a skincare active. It does not act on the skin; its value lies in how the pigments behave. As a coating it does its technical job well. Applied topically it has no systemic impact, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is high and irritation and allergy potential are low, so it suits sensitive skin. Silicones of this kind are inert and almost never cause reactions.
