Oleanolic acid (INCI: Oleanolic Acid) is a plant-derived triterpene found in olive leaves and other plants. In cosmetics it is used mostly in formulas for oily skin, where it helps moderate sebum production and adds a soothing effect. On efficacy: there is reasonable preliminary data on its sebum-regulating action, especially when paired with other actives as in some acne-prone products. We place it as a supporting active with a moderate evidence base, not a stand-alone treatment. It adds value inside a well-built formula. In topical use it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding without any foreseeable risk. Tolerance is good, with low irritation and allergy potential, suitable also for sensitive skin that is oily as well.
