Rice Bran Extract (Oryza Sativa Bran Extract) is a hydro-ethanolic or hydroglycolic extract of rice grain husks. Composition: gamma-oryzanol (triterpene ferulic acid esters), tocopherols and tocotrienols (vit E), phytic acid, phytosterols, ferulic acid. Mechanism. Gamma-oryzanol suppresses tyrosinase in melanocytes and absorbs UV in the 290–315 nm range (UVB) – has a mild SPF effect. Tocopherols and ferulic acid neutralize free radicals, protect from photoaging. Phytic acid is a metal chelator and mild peeling agent. Where applied. Anti-aging and brightening serums and creams, post-procedure products, in premium Japanese and Korean cosmetics (SK-II, Tatcha). In Spain in Sesderma and Mesoestetic lines. Concentration 0.5–5%. Evidence base. Akihisa 2000 double-blind study showed anti-aging effect via NF-κB suppression. Manosroi 2011 RCT (n=20) confirmed moisturizing and antioxidant effect over 8 weeks. CIR confirmed safety. Safety. Hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic, does not photosensitize. In patients with known rice allergy (rare) – contraindication. Pregnancy and lactation – topically safe.
