Panax Ginseng Root Extract is a hydro-ethanolic extract of Korean or Chinese ginseng root. Active components are ginsenosides (Rb1, Rg1, Re, etc.), polysaccharides, phenolic compounds. An adaptogenic plant of traditional Eastern medicine. Mechanism. Ginsenosides stimulate collagen synthesis and fibroblast proliferation in vitro (Lee 2014). Antioxidant action via free radical neutralization. Enhance skin microcirculation. Where applied. Korean and Japanese anti-aging serums and creams – the basis of Sulwhasoo Concentrated Ginseng and The History of Whoo lines. Less common in Europe, in niche lines. In Spain in Sesderma, Mesoestetic. Concentration 0.5–3%. Evidence base. Hwang 2017 RCT (n=23) in women with photoaging showed reduced wrinkle depth and improved elasticity over 24 weeks with 3% red ginseng. The evidence base is limited to Korean studies; no systematic review. Safety. CIR confirmed safety at cosmetic concentrations. Contact allergies are rare. Pregnancy and lactation – use with caution. Ginsenosides may exhibit estrogen-like activity at systemic doses. Oral ginseng in pregnancy is contraindicated (ACOG 2023). Topically at low concentrations likely safe, but no direct data – manufacturers recommend avoidance.
