Phytosteryl macadamiate (INCI: Phytosteryl Macadamiate) is an emollient ester that pairs phytosterols with fatty acids from macadamia oil. In a formula it softens skin and helps reinforce the sense of a barrier thanks to its affinity with skin lipids. This is a functional emollient component, not a treatment active. It leaves a silky feel and improves the sense of comfort and a well-protected surface. Phytosterols carry some barrier-support logic, but the effect here is supportive rather than transformative. In topical use it poses no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding without trouble. It is very well tolerated: low irritation and allergy potential, suitable for sensitive skin. Its comedogenicity is low (around 1), so it rarely causes a problem even on combination skin.
