About this ingredient

Resveratrolarginine is a salt form of resveratrol with the amino acid arginine. A patented development addressing the main problem of pure resveratrol: low water solubility, instability under light and oxygen, and poor bioavailability in cosmetic formulas. The arginine salt unlocks the molecule's potential while preserving function. Where it is used. Anti-aging serums and emulsions, antioxidant creams for mature skin, products against blue light and infrared, formulas for pigmentation and tone evening. Concentrations 0.05-1%. In Spain: Sesderma Resveraderm, Mesoestetic Resveraplex, selected Cantabria and Talika lines. Mechanism. The resveratrol part scavenges free radicals through phenolic hydroxyl groups. It activates SIRT1 (sirtuin-1), an enzyme that regulates cellular metabolism and DNA repair. It inhibits tyrosinase – the enzyme for melanin synthesis – which justifies use in hyperpigmentation. The arginine part acts as an NO donor, improves skin microcirculation, and itself adds mild antioxidant activity. Evidence base. Topical resveratrol – evidence base B-C. The Buonocore 2012 RCT (n=50, 5% resveratrol + 0.5% delta-tocopherol over 60 days) showed improvement in roughness and pigmentation. Pavlou 2018 demonstrated antioxidant protection against UV-induced oxidative stress. Resveratrolarginine specifically was studied in Kirilenko 2019 in fibroblast culture, confirming a better stability and penetration profile compared with pure resveratrol. Safety. Pregnancy and breastfeeding – topical use is safe. Oral resveratrol at high doses (above 1.5 g/day) is not recommended in pregnancy due to theoretical estrogenic effects, but skin absorption from cosmetic formulas is minimal. Irritation is rare. Practical notes. Morning antioxidant – pairs well with vitamin C, niacinamide, and flavonoids. Expect light-protected packaging (dark glass, airless), otherwise activity drops within weeks. In INCI it usually sits at position 4-8. Not to be confused with oral resveratrol supplements – their evidence base for anti-aging effects is weak (Sahebkar 2013 meta-analysis) and does not transfer to topical use.
