A plant extract. Well tolerated; independent data limited.
Saw palmetto fruit extract (INCI: Serenoa Serrulata Fruit Extract) provides fatty acids and phytosterols. The manufacturer links it to sebum control and a refined look of pores, mostly in products for oily skin. On topical efficacy on skin, independent evidence is scarce; most studies focus on oral use in a different context. It is reasonable to treat it as a supporting component for oily skin rather than a sebum-regulating active with proven effect. Topically its systemic relevance is negligible, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding without special restriction. Tolerance is good. Irritation and allergy potential are low, suitable for sensitive skin. Most people show no reaction and it is not linked to clogged pores.
