INCI: Chrysanthemum Parthenium Extract
A feverfew extract (parthenolide-free in cosmetics). It soothes and reduces redness. Well tolerated.
Topical application
BLimited evidence. One RCT or several controlled studies with limitations.
A soothing plant extract. Safe.
Chrysanthemum Parthenium Extract (feverfew extract) is used in cosmetics in a purified, parthenolide-free version, removing the plant's most sensitizing compound. In a formula it acts as a soothing component that lowers redness and reactivity. Efficacy is reasonable as support: the parthenolide-free fraction keeps flavonoids with antioxidant and calming activity shown in vitro and in some studies on reactive skin. Even so, treat it as a component that soothes, not as a standalone rosacea treatment. Topically the systemic contribution is negligible, so it can be applied during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The purified version is well tolerated: low irritation and allergy, suitable for sensitive and rosacea-prone skin. If the INCI does not state it is parthenolide-free and the person has a known allergy to Asteraceae, a small patch test first is wise.
