Gossypium Herbaceum Seed Oil is the oil extracted from cotton seeds. Its INCI name is Gossypium Herbaceum Seed Oil. In a formula it is an emollient that softens the skin and supplies linoleic acid, a fatty acid useful for the skin barrier. On efficacy: as an emollient and barrier support it genuinely works. Linoleic acid helps keep the stratum corneum cohesive and reduce water loss. It is not a dramatic active, but its emollient role is well grounded. Applied topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. General tolerance is good, with a low irritation and allergy potential. One important point: its comedogenicity is moderate to high (3 of 5), so people with oily or acne-prone skin should use it with caution or choose lighter formulas.
