An amla fruit extract with vitamin C and polyphenols. It supports antioxidant defense and an even skin tone. Well tolerated.
Topical application
BLimited evidence. One RCT or several controlled studies with limitations.
An antioxidant plant extract. Safe.
Amla fruit extract (INCI Phyllanthus Emblica Fruit Extract) comes from Indian gooseberry and brings vitamin C and polyphenols. In formulas it is aimed at antioxidant defense and support for a more even skin tone. On efficacy this is one of the better-supported antioxidant extracts within its category: its polyphenols help counter oxidative stress and are linked to a moderate brightening effect. Still, view it as a supporting active rather than a replacement for a strong depigmenting agent; the evidence base is promising but not conclusive. Topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is high: low irritation and allergy potential, suitable for sensitive skin. No worrying comedogenic profile.
