A sunflower-oil-based emollient and emulsifier. It softens skin and blends oil with water. Well tolerated.
Topical application
BLimited evidence. One RCT or several controlled studies with limitations.
A functional emollient and emulsifier. Safe.
Sunflower seed oil PEG-8 esters (INCI: Sunflower Seed Oil PEG-8 Esters) are made by joining sunflower oil with polyethylene glycol. That change gives a molecule with dual affinity: an emollient that softens on one side, an emulsifier and solubilizer that helps blend oil and water on the other. This is a functional component, not a skincare active. It improves texture, disperses other oils and adds stability to light emulsions and cleansers. It does not correct wrinkles or spots; its value is technical. PEG esters of plant oils have no meaningful systemic absorption topically, so they can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good, with low irritation and allergy risk, suitable for sensitive skin. Comedogenicity is low (1), so the margin on oily or acne-prone skin is comfortable, though individual response is worth watching.
