PEG-7 (INCI: PEG-7) is a short-chain polyethylene glycol that works as a humectant and solvent. It pulls water into the formula, helps dissolve poorly soluble actives and fragrance, and smooths the texture of creams and emulsions. This is a functional ingredient, not a skincare active. On its own it gives no visible result on skin – its job is in distribution and product stability. Judging it by active efficacy would be a mistake, since it plays a technical part. Applied topically, PEG-7 has no meaningful systemic uptake, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding without concern. Tolerance is high. Irritation and allergy potential are both low, so it suits sensitive skin well. It is an inert ingredient that most skin accepts without a reaction.
